Many Forms Of Garage Floor Paint

There are several options available for garage floor paint - polyurethane, epoxy and latex. Each of these garage floor paint ideas can be directly applied over your existing concrete. Epoxy is probably the most widely used coating for garage floors. It’s primarily due to the fact that it bonds very well to concrete and the result is a hard, durable surface that resists stains. The challenge with epoxy is that you’ll need to devote some time to prepare your garage floor in advance before applying the paint. This is to ensure that the garage floor is free of any dirt or dust that might settle in.

Another drawback to epoxy is that it can turn yellow and potentially lose its glossy finish when exposed to too much sunlight. Temperature is a factor during the application phase for epoxy garage floor paint. I’m certain that you’ll be happy with the end result of an epoxy garage floor paint but remember to wait at least 24-48hrs before parking a vehicle on it.

The next option available for floor paint is polyurethane. This material actually stands up better to spills than epoxy and won’t fade to yellow as easily. The finished application is durable and has a very high gloss. There’s an extra step involved if you decide to use polyurethane floor paint. You’ll need to apply an epoxy primer before applying the polyurethane to ensure it bonds to the concrete garage floor.

Another option available is various latex garage floor paints. This is probably the cheapest alternative to epoxy and polyurethane but isn’t considered a quick drying garage floor paint and requires at least 72 hours drying time before parking a vehicle on it. Latex floor paint offers an antique look and sometimes, depending on the type of latex, can resemble stonework or even leather. You’ll need to add a protective coating to the latex to make the finish permanent. If you decide to use latex floor paint, just remember that too much exposure to sun can damage the coating. Also, use a broom to put grooves into the paint to create a non-slip surface.

All of these ideas for garage floor paints are readily available at your local hardware store. If you need more information on the different paints and garage floor covering material, I would recommend speaking with an experienced associate at either Home Depot or Lowes.
